Off the field

Tonight we celebrate off the park with ‘GOING THE BARREL’ at our club sponsor – The Ettamogah Hotel. It is the last chance for all players and members to relax before our finals campaign with the worlds greatest footy rock band reforming for one night only. You can be expected to dance the night away as our own Football Ops Director – Mark Barclay – heads up the band. Tickets are $25 and please contact Aaron Hill 0439438298.

On the field

With only 2 rounds remaining and sitting in equal 2nd on win/loss and 4th on % the Blacktown Magic Women have performed above our pre-season expectations. We are looking forward to the last 2 rounds as we have played only 1 game in the last 4-5 weeks and have struggled to field a full team in the last 8 weeks due to overseas travels, holidays and work commitments. Like most teams we have been hampered by injuries and this year we lost 3 players with season ending injuries.

The team is now fully focused on securing a finals position and know that these next 2 weeks are crucial in our effort to finish in the top 3. Our Div 2 competition would have to be the most contested for a final 5 position with 6 teams battling it out. This keeps the excitement and enthusiasm up and the team is definitely focused on this. During the season we have unearthed some great talent from girls who have not played the sport before. Some of these are hinting they may give up their preferred sport next year to concentrate on AFL only and this will be a huge plus for the Magic.

The women realise a win in our next 2 games cannot be guaranteed. Our first journey to Mahoney Park to play Newtown will be a good challenge as they were very competitive in our earlier contest. A win here will set us up for the game of the year, a home game vs UTS Shamrocks. A win to either side will secure a top 3 finish. A loss with probably mean playing in the elimination final the week after. The Shamrocks were our tip as premiers and have a very experienced and talented line up. Our previous encounter saw us come away with a win but the Shamrocks had an unusual inaccurate day in front of goal and also had a few good players missing. We encourage all Magic supporters and supporters of women’s footy to come and watch this game on the 15th August at 10am at Oval 2 BISP Rooty Hill when 2 of the top sides fight it out for a top 3 finish.

It has been a similar story with the Men’s team this year as it has been a difficult time of late with large numbers travelling and an even bigger number of players injured, effecting training performance and understandably game day results. Through this tough run we have played some very good footy and some frustratingly poor footy.  The past 4 games have seen us take on the other top 4 sides, resulting in a tough loss against Moorebank away where Moorebank proved too skilful and prepared for us, A hungry tough win against Penrith, A close but encouraging Loss against the minor premier Camden in which we showed glimpses of our best footy and finally a gritty win against Manly away when we were down at Half Time.

This run lead is into a much needed week off and a good chance to regroup ahead of our final 3 games against Randwick, Nth Shore and Moorebank.  These three games against big bodied opposition will give us the perfect platform to dive head first into finals.  We will be looking to go into finals on the back of 4 straight wins and a 2nd place finish to give ourselves a double chance in the finals.

Through this period the likes of skipper Josh Mann and little man DK Lim have found some scintillating form.  Josh’s run from half back and ability to find the footy has seen some exciting passages of play, none more so than his 100m, 6 bounce run against Moorebank.  DK’s ability to find the goals of late (5 in last 3 games) has seen him grow in confidence and will be vitally important as we enter the finals series.

2015 has been an up and down year to date but with a strong commitment to the training track for the remainder of the season should see us put together the performances on the field and go deep into finals.

If not we are training Tuesday nights at Blacktown International Sports Park Oval 2 from 6.30pm, if you would like to come down for a run. Can not guarantee you a game but would love for you to come down for a run.
