Div 3 Round 13

The sun was shining on the Magic in their Round 13 clash against local rivals Macquarie University Warriors as the Division 3 team flexed their muscles and put on a highlight reel for the spectators.

From the first bounce the Magic players dominated and dictated play and it was good to see that they kept that momentum for the entire match. The Magic were determined to bounce back from the result against staunch rival Randwick City Saints, something which coach Dean Connors drilled into the team during the week and prior to this match.

In the ruck saw Michael Collins winning a majority of the ball and providing his rovers with plenty of service. Andrew Polkinghorne and Kent Weir worked tirelessly for the first quarter and were pivotable in setting up the 6 goals for the quarter with goals kicked by Ash Moeller, Ej Barclay and Michael Clinch.

Some changes at quarter time saw some tall forwards get into the mix through defenders Joey Saunders and Daniel Clifford to counter the height of the Warriors defence. The master stroke was rewarded with a quick succession of goals to Clifford who lengthened the lead going in at half time 99 points ahead. Some great lead up play from half forwards Jeff Talbot and the Corr brothers delivered the quality service into forward line time and time again.

At half time the Magic looked strong and wanting more, and more they got. An 11 goal quarter more than shut the game off for Macquarie Uni and gave the confidence the Magic need for the run home of the home and away fixtures.

Matthew Hinchcliffe, the unsung hero of the game today, defended and tackled all game, allowing his team mates the space and time to be able to deliver the pinpoint accuracy to the forward line time and time again. It was this effort which got him the Man of the Match. Ash Moeller bagged another 10 goal haul today shooting him back to the top of the Golden Boot Race for the competition.

A message was sent to the competition that the Magic means business this year with a thumping 220-7 scoreline at the final siren.
