Magic in the Air – 2013 Premiers

Blacktown Magic have won their first premiership by claiming the Division Three title defeating Randwick City by 11 points.

In a back and forth match, Blacktown led for most of the day eventually running out 11.11 to 10.6 victors.

In a tight opening with neither side able to get on top, Blacktown took a slight 1 point lead into the first change. Randwick came out strong in the second term kicking a couple of goals but the Magic responded to regain the lead by six points nearing the end of the second quarter. The quarter ended in fiery fashion with Randwick captain Scott Feigan was yellow carded just before the main break.

Blacktown started to show their class, racing out to a 30 point point before an Ashlee Azhar goal on the 3 quarter time siren brang the margin back to 27 points. The 4th quarter started and it looked like it was going to be an easy victory for Blacktown before Randwick kicked three goals in 8 minutes to bring the margin back to nine points late in the 4th quarter. However, Blacktown settled to run out winners and premiers.

Leighton Corr provided quality ball to the forwards from the half back line and awarded the best on ground medal and was well supported midfielders Andrew Polkinghorne and Dean Connors as well as Brade Whale showing great leadership.
