With the finals starting this weekend for Division Five, the Magic are in full preparation to make history for both our teams. We hear from the coaching panel about the road to the grand final…

As a coaching group pre-season we set the bar quiet high with the expectation of both teams  playing finals at the very least in 2014.  As a coaching group, playing group and club we have achieved this expectation.  With a win to the seniors on the weekend over local rivals Sydney Hills in a tough and scrappy encounter confirming that both sides had cemented a finals birth.

Division 5 had a grand opportunity to finish the regular season with a double chance and a 3rd place finish, but were pipped at the post on percentage for 3rd spot.  So a fourth place finish for Div 5 will have to suffice.  Footy finals are a whole new ball game and anything can happen.  We look forward to Sunday’s Elimination final, as our boys play the same team they knocked off in the same fixture last year.  The Magic boys should go in very confident with a regular season win by 12 goals only a month ago, but finals footy is a whole new kettle of fish and the boys will need a big week on the track  in order to be at their best to get the win.

Div 2 with one game remaining will look to cement 3rd spot with a win at North Shore on Saturday afternoon.  North Shore have been an up and down team all year with the strength of their side based on their senior teams side, and will pose a good test for the boys going into finals.  Inconsistent footy over the past month has been a worrying sign for the group with clean skills and spread the main contributors.  A scrappy but important win over Moorebank set the tempo for an assault on 3rd place holders Camden in a big 8 point match at BISP in which the Magic boys turned it on, running out convincing 80 point winners in one of the best skilled games of the year.

As a club we are all itching for finals footy to begin, and it begins at training.  It is imperative that all players get to training both nights to ensure we get our touches up and individual team drills are well numbered to ensure the appropriate preparation for the first finals game this Sunday at BISP at 1.20pm for the Div 5 boys. Lets ensure that we are their in numbers to support the Div 5 boys.
