Blacktown Magic Australian Football Club were recently the benefactors of a very generous Volunteer’s Grant from the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) to assist the fantastic work of the volunteers at the local AFL club.

The Volunteer’s Grant recognises the important role of volunteers by providing $16 million through Volunteer Grants in 2012. Integral to the success of Blacktown Magic was the support of the families, schools, the Indigenous community and businesses in the Blacktown area as they debuted in their first season in 2012 where they finished Runner’s Up in the Men’s Division 3 Sydney AFL Competition.

The volunteers at the Magic, give their time and effort freely, united in their desire to help others and achieve a better quality experience for all those who are connected to the Magic, both players and supporters.

Blacktown Magic AFC were personally congratulated by the Federal Member of Chifley, Ed Husic, on their successful application and for the opportunities that are made available by the club in the local area for sport participation and community support.

“It’s amazing how much has been achieved at Blacktown Magic in such a short time,” Ed Husic said.

“It’s a credit to the work of all the volunteers who have got this club off the ground.

“Western Sydney is big enough and has the diversity to support all the major football codes and it’s great to have an AFL pathway for aspiring players.”

The grant will allow the Magic to purchase the much needed items that volunteer’s utilise in their day to day running of the club and on match day. The news of the successful application was excitedly received by the Club President, John Clifford.

“This is a fantastic milestone for Blacktown Magic and the local area who participate in AFL.” stated John.

“The Volunteer’s Grant will allow us to help equip the volunteers of this club who tirelessly dedicate their time and effort to provide a positive environment for all those who participate with the Magic.”

2013 is a year of growth for Blacktown Magic as they will be fielding a second team in the Sydney AFL Men’s Competitions (Division 3 and 5) and are currently encouraging new players of all abilities to be involved with the Magic for this season. The Magic are based at Blacktown International Sports Park and the Eastern Playing Fields, The Ponds where they train every Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:30pm.
