Come play U19s at the Magic

Updated: February 22, 2016

Do you love AFL? Are you under the age of 19? We want you to come play footy at the Magic this year in 2016!

Late December 2015, it was decided the Western Magic would commit to fielding an Under 19’s team for the coming 2016 season. After many phone calls and messages to potential players over the Christmas, New Year holiday period, a team began to take shape. As the rebranding to ‘Western Magic’ has reflected an expanded vision, potential players from as far as the Blue Mountains, St Clair and Baulkham Hill have committed to playing with the team for the coming year.

U19s Head Coach, Anthony Hyland reported excitingly his thoughts on the first few weeks at the Magic: “A lot of the initial preseason training took place with the first and reserves, giving the emerging young guns an excellent indoctrination into the game style and spirit of the club. This has inspired the players with an enthusiasm for their new club and a fresh spark to their footy. Numbers attending training have been down for a variety of reasons. With cricket still in progress, University timetables needing to be sorted and pre-university (HSC) part time jobs important, footy has been on the back burner.

Now with round 1 only a few weeks away players have organised car-pooling and are starting to focus on the coming season with talk around the group being nothing but positive about where the team is heading this year.

Along with the Western Magic, North Shore are fielding a new Under 19’s team making it a total of 6 clubs fielding teams in the Division 2, 19’s competition. The team is looking for a few more players to give us a full squad for the season. This will give us the ability to rest players if need be or when a player is needing to work, so if you are aware of anyone interested in joining the Magic and they’re born between 97-99 let us know”
