Back to Back Premierships on Offer for Magic

Updated: September 12, 2014

Meeting Manly in a sudden death Qualifying Final was always going to be a tough challenge, but knowing that a 3rd successive Grand Final birth was on the end of a win was the driving force behind a dominant performance, on Saturday night at Blacktown International Sports Park.

The boys flew out of the blocks to have the first 4 goals of the game inside ten minutes of footy, through some great ruck work from Timmy Baracz feeding the midfielders (Dean Connors, Kent Weir and Ash Moeller).  Manly slowed down our run but failed to hit the scoreboard which saw us lead 24 – 3 at quater time.

The second quarter saw Manly control the play and possession with repeat entries into their forward 50 and a clear dominance in the stoppages around the ground, aided by poor turnovers from us.  This dominance only allowed for 2 goals to Manly while the Magic got 1 through Michael Clinche.  At half time the scoreboard was 5-0-30 to 2-6-18 to the Magic.

The half time coaches address demanded that the players take ownership of their skills, endeavour and the game.  Action was taken immediately with a goal to Ash Moeller inside the first 30 seconds and quickly followed by goals to Andrew Polkinghorne, Deano and a candy selling goal by Leighton Corr.  It was a whole new Magic that played in the second half, with total dominance of skill and general play.  3 Qtr time 9-2-56 to 2-7-19.

The last quarter was a mere formality as the Magic continued their dominant run and aggression at the contest to run out 12-6-78 to 3-8-26 winners.

The Magic were best served by the raging bull Brad Whale across HB and big Clinchy deep forward, and Timmy B as dominant as ever in the ruck.

So the big win takes us to a 3rd Successive Grand Final and a rematch against our Semi Final opponents Sydney Uni.  Despite our loss at the hands of Sydney Uni just two weeks ago, the group has again developed a confidence in the way we want to play footy and the recipe that will allow us to run over Sydney Uni.  With the Div 5 Grand Final win a driving inspiration for the Div 2 group heading into the big dance, the Magic train is ready to roll on.

We are hoping for a HUGE Magic support base on the day, to drown out what will be a big Sydney Uni fan base. We look forward to creating history on Saturday!
