It was a big day out west for the Magic. The Division 3 side secured the clubs inaugural minor premiership with a crushing win over fellow finalists, Sydney University. But Ash Moeller was the talk of the town, kicking his 100th goal for the season.

Moeller kicked 13 for the day, with his 9th goal marking the occasion. The players (and some rogue family members) swamped Ash to celebrate the occasion. It capped off a fantastic debut season for Moeller at the Magic, and a great afternoon for the club.

The Magic started strong in the first quarter, determined to follow on from the success of Division 5 earlier in the day. Moeller and Michael Clinch got things moving up forward, as Kent Weir won plenty of ball in the middle. By quarter time, the Magic were up 42-0.

Sydney Uni weren’t going to go home without a fight, and put in a stirring second quarter. The Magic ended up outscoring their opponents 4 goals to 3, but were down in effort and execution.

After some strong words of encouragement from Coach Connors at the break, with the guide to keep things positive and take the game on, the Magic broke the game open in the 3rd quarter. Pat Barclay was busy across half forward, and Joey Saunders started to find a lot of space on the wings. His penetrating kicks into the forward line created plenty of opportunities for Moeller. Dan Clifford was moved into the ruck and the ball started moving much quicker into the forward 50. Ben Akmens provided as another strong target up forward, helping to stretch the Uni defence. But it was the 100 goal celebrations for Moeller that will see this quarter go down in Magic folklore.

The boys came back out in the fourth determined to finish strong, and ran out the game well. Finishing winners 170-33, and claiming the minor premiership. This will give the Division 3 side the week off in the first week of finals, and a double chance the following week.

This week, Gosford Wildcats will make the trek down the freeway and present a great opportunity for the boys to play against some strong opposition in the last game before finals. Kick off is 2pm @ BISP.
